HP International Women’s Challenge
Date: 1997
In addition to its efforts internally, Hewlett-Packard found ways to support women outside of the office. From 1997–2002, the company was the main sponsor of the International Women’s Challenge, also known as the HP International Women’s Challenge. The event was one of the most prestigious women’s cycling races in the world, annually attracting over 100 of the best racers from around the globe. Doug Johnson, general manager for HP’s LaserJet Supplies Operation, explained why the company was so eager to support the event: “These competitors are not only world-class athletes, they are inspirational women who strive to be the best in whatever they decide to do.”
