Bringing New Life to Old Hardware
Date: 1993
Denise Furet, program manager, and Gilles Brulet, recycling specialist at Hardware Recycling Europe, took in 120 tons of obsolete HP products on a monthly basis. Many parts were reused for repairs and the rest were safely recycled. Hewlett-Packard had operated a product take-back center in Europe since 1989, and by 1993 the facility in Grenoble, France, recycled or reused about 95 percent of the 800,000 pounds of electronic hardware it collected every month.
