Condoleezza Rice on HP Board
Date: 1996
Condoleezza Rice was the first woman to serve as National Security Advisor, the first Black woman to serve as Secretary of State and the first woman of color to serve on the Hewlett-Packard board of directors. Rice joined the board in 1992 and resigned a year later when she was appointed Stanford University’s provost, explaining that the responsibilities of the position forced her to reduce her outside activities. Rice remained connected to HP, however, and even gave a tribute at Dave Packard’s memorial service in 1996.
