Sprouting Environmental Policies
HP employees Simon Forsyth and Julie Parker (left and center) volunteered for the “green team” at the company’s Bristol site, planting wildflowers with Helen Hall (right) of the Avon Wildlife Trust. Hewlett-Packard took major steps to align with the company’s 1990 environmental policy statement, which included measures to reduce, reuse and recycle. “If HP is going to succeed in the ’90s, we’ll have to integrate EHS [environmental, health and safety] considerations into every aspect of our business, including every step in the product life cycle,” said HP president and CEO John Young. In addition to ensuring products were greener, HP employees like Forsyth and Parker made their office sites and communities greener by planting and gardening.
