Addison Avenue: The Garage
Date: 1939
The garage at 367 Addison Avenue became a Silicon Valley icon. Dave and Bill worked there in 1938 and 1939 while living on the property, and it was there that they developed Hewlett-Packard’s first products. As Hewlett-Packard grew to be a global powerhouse with grander, more sophisticated facilities, the garage became a symbol of the entrepreneurial spirit that drove the company. Meanwhile, Hewlett-Packard’s success would lead the world at large to develop a fascination with the potential of tech companies that “started out in a garage.”
